Russia to ratify Montreal Convention in 2012
Published: May 24, 2012
Russia will ratify the Montreal Convention before the end of 2012, Russia’s deputy minister of transport Valery Okulov said at the International Air Cargo Assn. (TIACA) summit in Moscow. Okulov added that the ratification procedure does not take a long time, as Russia needs to adopt local laws in accordance with the convention.
Russia has been following the Warsaw Convention, which was adopted in 1929, and uses the Hague protocol.
The Montreal Convention was signed in 1999 to replace the Warsaw Convention and all its related instruments. The document introduces a modernized and uniform legal framework governing airline companies’ liability in the event of damage caused to passengers, baggage or goods during international journeys.
