Oman Air (WY) will launch a new daily service between Muscat (MCT) and the Iranian capital Tehran (THR) Sept. 1.
The MCT-THR route will be operated using WY’s Embraer E-175 regional jets. The airline took delivery of two of the aircraft in 2011; two more will enter service later this year. The airline also holds an option on a further five aircraft ( ATW Daily News, Nov. 18, 2009 ).
CEO Wayne Pearce said that “Tehran is a major business hub and we anticipate strong demand from both business and leisure passengers.”
The additional route continues WY’s rapid growth over the last 30 months ( ATW Daily News, March 23 ), which includes a significant increase in the airline fleet and expansion of its network to include more than 40 domestic, regional, and international destinations. The carrier has also introduced a range of products and services, including complete cell phone and Wi-Fi connectivity on the airline’s Airbus A330 fleet. Over the same period, revenues and passenger numbers have also continued to grow.
WY, which placed an order for six Boeing 787s at the Dubai Airshow, has confirmed the aircraft are scheduled for delivery in 2015 ( ATW Daily News, Nov. 15, 2011 ).
WY’s fleet also includes four Airbus A330-200s, three Airbus A330-300s, 15 Boeing 737-700s/800s and two ATR 42s.
