GA Telesis (GA) has revealed it is in advanced talks with Finnair Engine Services (FES) on a potential purchase of part of the FES business. FES provides engine repair and overhaul services for third-party customers on the General Electric CF6-80C2, CFM International CFM56-5B and -5C, and Pratt & Whitney PW2000 engine types. GA said it will seek to grow this platform to at least other GE and CFM models.

Finnair announced in April its intent to outsource its own engine heavy maintenance. The impending purchase is still subject to ongoing negotiations and regulatory and GA Telesis board approvals.

“Our recent meetings with labor groups were well received and we were quite pleased with their enthusiasm and shared vision of the new engine organization in Finland,” GA Telesis president and CEO Abdol Moabery said. “While there are a lot of moving pieces that need to come together to make this deal happen, we remain committed to working with FES towards a successful closing of the transaction.”

GA said it would continue to run the engine service operations at the FES base of Helsinki Airport.

The announcement comes on the heels of yesterday’s notice of the formation of integrated spare parts supplier GA Telesis China (GATC), a joint venture (JV) between GA and Air China (CA). The JV will focus on the used aircraft, spare parts and asset management market in Asia.

“The Asia market is clearly noted to be the largest global growth market for commercial aviation and is forecasted to have almost twofold demand for new aircraft over the next 20 years,” CA president Cai Jianjiang, said. “The formation of GA Telesis China is a perfect strategy to help Air China to manage its component replacement costs and long-term fleet planning.”

GA said its GATC JV will be the first aircraft part-out business and integrated full-scale redistribution stockist based in China covering the entire Asian market.

GA maintains sales, distribution and maintenance facilities throughout the US, Canada and the United Kingdom.
