Mexico’s Interjet has converted its five Sukhoi Superjet 100 (SSJ100) options into firm orders from a previously announced order for 15 of the aircraft plus five options ( ATW Daily News, Jan. 19, 2011 ). Based on list prices, the value of the 20-aircraft order is approximately $ 700 million, according to a Superjet International (SJI) statement.
Interjet, Latin America’s launch customer for the SSJ100, will receive its first aircraft in Venice in August. The carrier said it was still set on the SSJ100 following a fatal demonstration flight crash in Indonesia in May ( ATW Daily News, May 22 ).
SJI also signed a memorandum of understanding to appoint Interjet Toluca’s facility as an authorized service center for the provisioning of base and line maintenance on the SSJ100.
In April, the SSJ100 aircraft obtained Mexican certification confirming its compliance with the requirements of the Mexican Aviation Authority.
