Intersky eyes further expansion

Austrian regional Intersky (3L) is eyeing further expansion by taking over regional routes from mainline carriers.
The carrier, which recently confirmed an order for two ATR 72-600s ( ATW Daily News, Sept. 13 ), is also looking to expand its fleet from three Bombardier Dash 8 Q400s to seven or eight aircraft.
“I see our strategy in taking over regional routes that [larger] carriers had given up,” 3L managing director Peter Oncken told ATW. He said the carrier will continue to focus on Germany and Austria as it main markets, as well as charter flights.
3L also announced it will open a base in Karlsruhe/Baden Baden in January 2013, from which it will initially operate 3X-daily flights, increasing to 4X-daily by next summer.
Oncken said the carrier expects to operate each ATR aircraft up to 700 hours annually. “There must be an increased productivity,” he said.
