Passenger traffic to airports run by Fraport rose by 3.2 percent in March while cargo was up 2.8 percent, the airport operator said.

However passenger numbers at Frankfurt Airport, its main airport, were down by 1.1 percent in the year to March.

The company said that the figures were affected by heavy winter conditions and that if adjusted for the “winter effect” the figure would have been a 1 percent rise which was partly due to early Easter traffic.

In 2012 the Fraport Group saw an increase of 2.9 percent in traffic to about 99.4 million passengers. Cargo decreased slightly in 2012 by 5.8 percent to 2.4 million tonnes.
