Lufthansa Systems said it will launch its new wireless inflight entertainment system,  BoardConnect, on Condor’s Boeing 767s. BoardConnect is a next-generation IFE system, operating on a Wi-Fi network allowing passengers to connect to video and audio on demand—including games, e-mail and social networks—via their IFE screens or a personal Wi-Fi-equipped device.

“The system is much easier to install because there is no wiring required,” Lufthansa Systems AG CIO Jorg Liebe explained. “It can be integrated during a regular maintenance check, so there’s no need for extra downtime.”

BoardConnect requires only five access points in a 767 cabin, Lufthansa said, adding that the elimination of wiring and data distribution hardware could lead to weight savings of almost half a ton.
